Welcome to the Kaikoura Maternity service. We offer a unique model of service to the Kaikoura district.
A midwife provides all standard maternity care, which if you are fit and well during your pregnancy is standard care. Our GP's are close by to provide additional care and support if wished and when needed (some pregnancies are a little more complicated). As a maternity service two hours away from our tertiary facility; this a unique, superb and safe serivce rivalling many other primary units.
If and when more complicated situations arise, we work collegially with our specialists in Christchurch to ensure the best possible outcomes for mothers, baby's and whanau.
We proudly announce the arrival of our new midwife Claire Bracey. Claire is living in town with her family and is here to stay. Hooray! There is now a midwife on call and available for all midwifery matters 24/7.
Standard care will occur during business hours and any other urgent matters (like labour & birth) as they arise.
Our new midwife brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and as a community we all look forward to seeing more birthing here in Kaikoura.
